BECOMING A DISTINCTIVELY DEB

The Debutante Program was born out of the vision of Mrs. Serita Jakes that we continue our legacy by pouring into the next generation of leaders. Her desire is that our daughters be ushered into their promise by the wisdom, mentoring and life coaching we afford them in love. The Debutante Program is designed for girls ages 10-17 years of age (or high school senior.)

CLASSIFICATIONS

To ensure tailored content to each individual debutante, debutantes are grouped as follows:

  • Core Deb: Age 16 + years of age/high school senior

  • Junior Miss Deb: Age 13-15 years of age

  • Junior Deb: Age 10-12 years of age

What is a debutante?

The term “debutante”, French for “female beginner”, is described as a young lady who has reached the age of maturity and is introduced to society at a formal debut presentation.  The Distinctively Debs program was established in 1998 by First Lady Serita Jakes to inculcate young girls with teachings on grace, femininity, class, spirituality, and excellence. Year after year, mentors have ushered our daughters into their promise by the wisdom, mentoring, and instruction we afford them in love. With technology advancing and cultures evolving, we have incorporated those same teachings with advanced and modern provisions to equip today’s girls with a broad spectrum of knowledge to ensure their success upon moving forward from one milestone to the next.

What is a cotillion?

A cotillion is a formal ball given especially to debutantes, historically presented as a lively French social dance originating in the 18th century consisting of a variety of steps and figures performed by couples. This ball is a demonstration of the debutantes where their high moral character, social etiquette skills, and other achievements are highlighted and celebrated. The Distinctively Debs Cotillion is our annual culmination ceremony for Core Debutantes, Ages 16 and up, to be formally introduced to society as a young woman upon her successful completion of her debutante training.
